House Panel Seeks Testimony Of H-P Attorney, Investigator

WASHINGTON - The U.S. House Energy and Commerce Committee has requested additional witnesses to appear at the upcoming hearing titled, "Hewlett-Packard's Pretexting Scandal."

Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee Chairman Ed Whitfield, R-Ky., sent letters Monday to Hewlett-Packard's senior counsel, Kevin Hunsaker, and computer security investigator Fred Adler.

The subcommittee has also requested testimony from now-outgoing chairman of H-P, Patricia Dunn, as well as from H-P general counsel Ann Baskins, H-P global security manager Anthony Gentilucci, outside attorney Larry Sonsini, private investigator Joe Depante, owner of Action Research Group in Melbourne, Fla., and Ron DeLia, operator of Security Outsourcing Solutions Inc., in Boston.

The subcommittee will convene for a hearing on H-P at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 28 in room 2123 of the Rayburn House Office Building.

The hearing is part of the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee's seven-month inquiry into data brokers and the questionable practice known as "pretexting" - the use of lies and deception to gain access to information that is not publicly available and without the victim's consent.

Copies of the letters are attached.
