Tauzin, Greenwood Examine FDA's Adequacy on Food Import Controls

WASHINGTON (June 11) -- Highlighting national security concerns and the need to protect the public health, House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Billy Tauzin (R-LA) and Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee Chairman James Greenwood (R-PA) today sent a letter to Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Mark McClellan outlining the Committee's ongoing examination of the adequacy of FDA's import controls. Specifically, the examination is focusing on whether or not the FDA is taking the necessary steps to adopt a risk-based approach to surveillance screening inspections of food imports.
